New Study - Sniffed Insulin: Can Cut Your Appetite!

For bodybuilders, appetite suppression is key. Now a new study released in Scientific Reports, a nature research journal, by researchers at the German Center for Diabetes Research in Tübingen, shows that intranasal insulin can help you to suppress your appetite, leading to weight-loss, and improved focus.

Researchers found that eating behavior and the feeling of hunger are regulated by a variety of hormones. In this study, 25 lean, ten overweight and 12 obese participants administered intranasal insulin, or the placebo. The result in all study participants who intranasal insulin after being subjected to a MRI scan not only showed increased cognitive function, but these changes in the brain also influenced eating behavior.

The study found that the insulin in the brain - due to increased activity between cognitive and homeostatic regions – may help regulate eating behavior and facilitate weight loss by suppressing the appetite.

Currently, insulin in intranasal form is available via prescription in the medicine known as Alzforum, which is used currently to treat Alzheimer’s Disease and Diabetes.

Before taking intranasal insulin, it is important to discuss these options with a healthcare professional. This treatment not may be suitable for everyone, and currently these medicines are only available with a prescription. It is also important to note that your doctor can give you the best advice when it comes to your overall health, so please consult your family physician when it comes to taking any type of prescription medicine, or starting any new diet plan.
