It was that flaming definition and deep separation in her
quads, and an overall insane muscular detail in tandem with her striking
vascularity in every muscle group that brought Joan Bovino into the national
bodybuilding limelight in the late 80's.
A vibrant personality, Bovino was a wide-eyed newcomer who had everyone
watching her every move. In the days of Cory Everson and Lenda Murray, and so
many other stars of that era, Joan Bovino made a valiant effort to nip at their
collective heels.

I first met
Vicki and her husband Brian when she was the lightweight bodybuilding
representative of Team US that was sent to the IFBB World Amateur Universe
Championships in 2004. I was a judge and the U.S. delegate escorting the team.
It was a great trip; but what struck me as being special was the tremendous
support of her husband Brian. They were a great couple and the caring was
obvious..

It was the middle 80's and women's bodybuilding was booming.
Local, state, regional, and national events flourished with dozens of entries
at each level, and many times with double-digit entries in each weight class.
Seemingly, outstanding new competitors popped up at every contest.

It is one of the most commonly asked questions in women's
bodybuilding, now that three decades have passed since its earliest days. What ever became of...... so and so? The sport of
bodybuilding has seen thousands of women come and go from the competitive stages
over the years - many of whom are still remembered vividly for what their
presence and physiques contributed to the judgment of the muscular female body,
and the evolution of the sport in general.
