Who is the biggest bodybuilder of all time? Has anything really embarrassing ever happened to you because of your size and weight?            This is an easy question because the answer to both parts can be found in one single individual— Greg Kovacs.              Greg is a personal friend of mine and I have clearance to Reveal the following stories!Greg Kovacs is the only bodybuilder ever to have legitimately reached a bodyweight of over 400 pounds. As a personal friend of his, I can honestly say that I, personally, verified this fact to be true (he weighed in on a freight scale).  How did Greg achieve such a monumental bodyweight (at only 6-foot-2)? Let me give you a little peek into a day at the home of Kim and Greg Kovacs. I need to include Greg’s wife, Kim, in this little dissertation since without her assistance, Greg would have had little chance of ever achieving the monstrous size and muscularity he now possesses— Kovacs’ size is a team effort.            After spending my first weekend at the Kovacs’ household several years ago, I got to witness firsthand what it takes to weigh a solid 400 pounds. I must start off by saying I thought I consumed a lot of food on a daily basis; however, Greg almost doubles my protein intake. He consumes approximately four food meals per day (75 grams of protein per meal). Additionally, he drinks six meal replacement shakes per day (two packets per shake for a total of 100 grams of protein per drink). If you add up all the numbers, he consumes upwards of 700 grams of protein per day. To make all this food consumption possible, Kim has each meal and shake prepared so all Greg has to do is walk from the couch over to the dining room table.  One time, while at the Kovacs’ house for an extended four-day weekend, I personally gained three pounds of muscle (in just four days) from eating loads of calorie-dense food in an extremely militant manner. Does this whole scenario sound pretty insane to you? Well, to quote my former mentor, Dr. Mike Kaufman, who routinely gags down a complete tub of fat-free cottage cheese,“This is not pleasure. This is business!”  If you want to grow huge, you have to eat huge. If Greg Kovacs is the hugest it’s because he eats the hugest! Likewise, Kim Kovacs prepares the hugest amounts of food I’ve ever witnessed. Not only does Kim feed Greg; she shaves his body, she keeps track of his food and supplement intake, she helps dress him, she helps bathe him and I have even seen her loading 45-pound plates at the gym. Hey, it’s tough to be that big! Kim even talks on the phone for Greg— he doesn’t like to waste too much energy speaking to people. If Greg actually gets on the telephone and personally addresses you, chances are he thinks very highly of you. I happen to be one of the few individuals who, on occasion, speak directly to him. There is an old, wise, bodybuilding saying that I love to quote: “Don’t run when you can walk, and don’t walk when you can sit.” Greg has modified this quotation to include, “Don’t just sit when you can be taking a nap on the couch!”             I read a story, written by Paul Dillett, in which he complained that he always walked around with his hands in his pockets because his arms weighed so damn much. He claimed it was too tiring to let them hang loosely all day long. Being an extraordinarily muscular individual makes life slightly more challenging. I’ve broken lounge chairs at the beach, I cracked the driver’s seat in my old 1984 Pontiac Grand Prix and I’ve knocked over innumerable glasses of diet soda in restaurants; however, I think Greg Kovacs holds the record as the only individual ever to break a fiberglass Jacuzzi bathtub while attempting to get out. I wasn’t at his home at the time; however, I’m sure he blamed his wife, Kim, for not being available to give him a helping hand. To quote Mel Brooks, “It’s good to be the King!”             My wife and I are trying to have a baby, but my sperm count is extremely low from being on steroids for so many years. Although I've been off them for a year now, I still can't seem to get her pregnant. Any suggestions? I've heard that HCG and Clomid could help, but I don't know the effective dose I should use. Is it more effective to take both, or is one satisfactory?              It’s important to remember that if you have a low sperm count and you are going to augment it by taking drugs like HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) and Clomid (clomiphene), you must realize that while sperm count might increase after only a few weeks, sperm cell motility might take upwards of three months to increase. This means that while you might successfully elevate your sperm count within a week or two of treatment, it might take a full three months or more before you actually get your wife pregnant. (Only mature sperm cells that can actually swim will fertilize an ovulated egg).            A friend of mine who was trying to get his wife pregnant took HCG for two months and his sperm count went up to 80 million/mL (normal range is 20-150 million sperm per milliliter). However, only 10 percent of the sperm showed any signs of movement. In order to get a woman pregnant, at least 60 percent of your sperm need to have motility. In a nutshell, he had no swimmers! He continued his HCG therapy (5,000 IU every week) and he added in 100 milligrams of Clomid every day. In 16 weeks (four months), his wife got pregnant.  If you have a little patience and are diligent with your HCG and Clomid therapy, you should be a father in no time!

I read your column in MD every month and find it very informative. Someone told me that since Winstrol depot (injectable) is chemically identical to the oral Winstrol tabs, you could drink the Winstrol depot rather than inject it?  Is this true?

Stanozolol (the chemical name for Winstrol) can be made into pills (Winstrol tabs) or can be sterilized and suspended in sterile water (Winstrol depot). Either way, stanozolol is still stanozolol! Therefore, whether you inject it into your body or orally consume it, it will be just as effective. One thing to consider, however, is that by injecting Winstrol, you are essentially putting it directly into the bloodstream, thus avoiding “first pass” metabolism by the liver.  Not only will this make the Winstrol slightly more active, it will also make it a lot less toxic to the liver.

I've read that Serono (Serostim) Growth Hormone (six milligrams) is good for up to five days after reconstitution when refrigerated. Is this true, despite the fact that it comes with sterile, not bacteriostatic water? Would using bacteriostatic water extend the life of the Serostim?

All growth hormone, once mixed, is good for at least five to seven days (no matter what water it’s mixed with).  After about the sixth or seventh day, the large 191 amino acid sequence GH molecule starts to get lysed (destroyed) by the water its been suspended in for the last several days.  Nutropin AQ (by Genentech) is the only anomaly to this rule. It has a uniquely patented “acid-water” added to its GH formula, thus making it impervious to water destruction. The acidic water causes the GH molecule to contract, thus protecting the integrity of the molecule. Nutropin AQ (which comes suspended in a water medium) is stable in that state for over 19 months.            Therefore, the use of bacteriostatic water in the reconstitution of GH is solely to prevent bacteria from growing. To answer your question, since it’s not the bacteria that are breaking down the GH molecules, it really makes no difference which water you use.  Interestingly, sometime within the last year, Serono has started using bacteriostatic, instead of sterile, water in their Serostim GH kits. Ironically, if you read their new pamphlets [who the heck reads directions nowadays?] it actually states that once mixed, Serostim is good for up to 14 days.
