DRUGS IN SPORTS:  AMERICA FINALLY WAKES UP

...and hides under the covers!

YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH

THE WORD has had it with Senator John McCain.  Shouldn't he be focusing on terrorism, and keeping the country safe?  I don't give a rat's fat ass what he oversees as a Senator.  Don't you have anything better to do with your time than worry about steroids in sports, Mr. McCain?

Look, it's time to wise up and see this situation for what it really is and always has been.  Fans want athletes to hit more home runs, they want to watch them run faster, and be bigger and harder as often as possible.  Progression is expected.  Every year, the bar is supposed to be pushed a little further.  That's called progress, and thanks to the government's interest in BALCO and their president, Victor Conte, exposing the sports world's ugly ass underbelly, hey, now you know the price for that progress!

As soon as an athlete gets labeled as a drug user, it's like their whole lives are shattered.  You go from being a hero to a demon.  THE WORD doesn't want to go to a ballgame and see zero home runs.  We go to boxing matches to see the guy who can hit the hardest and knock a bastard out with a devastating K.O. to the skull!

Likewise, bodybuilding fans don't go to a contest to see some dude they can catch at the beach any day of the week.  We want our freaks!  We want to see the biggest, most insane-looking athletes up there.

We in the bodybuilding community are now in the position to sit back and watch as the rest of our country gasp in horror about drugs in sports, plus their neat little sideshow attempts at fixing the problem with one or two high-profile arrests.  It doesn't work that way.  But we already know the secret, and you know what?  Overtime, I'm sure they will learn and accept professional sport's present form, but at the moment, America cannot handle it, period.  It is really pathetic!  This reminds THE WORD of Jack Nicholson's bad ass character as a Marine General in A Few Good Men when he said, "Son, you want the truth?  You can't handle the truth!"

Steroids have never killed anyone.  All these guys using are grown ass men and women.  They know exactly what they're getting into.  I doubt they start working with some coach and not have the inside scoop on what it is he really does for them.  Bottom line, it's their decision!  Every athlete knows their body and the risks involved.

THE WORD isn't advocating the use of performance enhancing drugs.  I just feel there are other drugs the government needs to target once they effectively deal with more pressing issues, such as economy, health care, education, improper military strategy and foreign policy.

SING YOU DAMN CANARY

Bodybuildings had a black eye for a long time.  We've been shunned by mainstream media for years.  The BALCO scandal gave bodybuilding another black eye.  Just when you think it couldn't get any worse for us, it does.  BALCO president, Victor Conte, goes live in front of several million people on ABC last Friday and drops several bombshells.  The following morning, every major newspaper in the country is reporting on Conte's interview, and that is when Sen. McCain blew a gasket and attacked baseball's steroid problem with treats of Federal oversight.  Well, at least now bodybuilding share the spotlight with all the other major sports out there.  It's gonna make endorsements and media coverage a bitch!

THE WORD first met Victor Conte in 1995.  Wayne DeMilla said this guy would be great for bodybuilding.  He saw Victor as a guy who would do the blood work for the athletes.  Wayne knew what was up.  It must have been his way of making sure everything was handled properly.

A lot of guys went to him, but THE WORD didn't have anything to do with him.  I was working with Chad and everything was fine.  Plus, I had my own doctor, Dr. Walter Jakot, who always did right by me.  Looking back, it was an excellent decision on my part.

Now, Victor is singing like a canary on nationwide television.  THE WORD is disgusted!  When things were smooth, he didn't name names.  Now he's trying to save his ass by bringing down all these big names in sports.   That is so wrong.  It's very unfortunate for bodybuilders to get dragged into this whole mess at this point in time, no matter what valid points he argued about drugs in sport during his 20/20 interview.

BEAT DOWN DESERVED

THE WORD is sick of turning on the television and seeing a fight at a major sporting event.  It's one thing to taunt an athlete, but throwing your beer in an athlete's face is plain stupid!  And why is the media all over the athlete?  THE WORD totally takes the athlete's side.  You can call me anything you want, and I know you do, but when you make it physical, forget about it!  Now we're just two men handling our business.

You don't expect someone to just walk away after getting a drink thrown in their face, do you?  Shit no!  Fans take heckling too far.  They're allowed to say and do anything they want, and when an athlete retaliates, whoa, suddenly he's the jerk?  Fuck that!  The fan deserves to get beat down!

Ron Artest just did what any man would do in that situation.  Artest did nothing wrong even though he jacked up the wrong fan during the mealy.  THE WORD thinks his punishment was unjust.  He's being punished for being a man who handles his shit.

THE WORD was recipient of such verbal abuse before.  The fans in New York let me know that they didn't appreciate my victory over Markus Ruhl.  Hey, it's not my fault the judges decided I was better!  THE WORD came to compete and win, period.  The rest is up to the judges.  Don't hate on me!  So, when they booed me,  I gave them the finger.

Let me tell you, if you didn't like it, meet me outside the door and we'll do it like men.  If you come at me like that, I'll put a beating on your ass!  Just because someone is an athlete or whatever doesn't mean you have free license to act like a complete dick and throw shit at him.

IGNORANT UP IN HERE

In bodybuilding, the fans get very close to the judges and the stage.  You know who started the whole jumping into the audience and posing bit?  THE WORD and Mike Matarazzo.  We were the first to step into the audience and give them their money's worth.  But now with all the trash on the Internet and the bickering and hatred, it's not even safe to do that anymore.  Some ignorant fool may decide to do something in defense of his favorite bodybuilder and lay the smack down on his rival.  Imagine if King Kamali went into the audience and a bunch of Titus' fans tried to hand him an ass whooping.  THE WORD says we need to beef up security at all sporting events to protect the athletes from the fans, the fans from the athletes, and the fans from the other fans!

LEAVE THE GHETTO IN THE GHETTO

THE WORD was at the first Source Awards in LA.   A straight up riot broke out.  THE WORD likes all kinds of music, but there are some ignorant ass fools in the rap industry.  It's an awards show for God's sake!  People are being recognized for their achievements.  And here you have these thugs coming to the show strapped with guns, and wearing bullet proof vests?  Do we really need to air this kind of shit on television?

What's worse, seeing Janet Jackson showing her titty on TV or watching the guy who punched Dr. Dre in the face getting stabbed by one of Dre's rapper friends??  It's nuts!  This was Dre's Lifetime Achievement Award from VIBE magazine.  And some asshole goes up and beats Dre down right as he's accepting the award?  Still, that's no excuse for the other rapper to nearly stab the guy to death on TV.

THE WORD is a huge fan of Dr. Dre.  He used to come train with us.  He's a very nice, mellow cat.  Why would anybody do that?  It's total jealousy.  Again, it makes hip-hop look so ignorant.  Then they wonder why nobody respects them.  You don't see shit popping off like that at the Grammy's or American Music Awards.  Get it together people!  Have some pride in yourself and your community.

AIN'T MY HOMIES

And I'll tell you another thing that gets THE WORDs flowing like mad: Canadian people.  Canadians piss me off.  And I'm Canadian!  I'm proud of my  country, but I was disgusted beyond WORD's when President Bush came here.  They were protesting and they don't even know what they're protesting against.  They're just sheep following the flock.  Listen up people: Canada would be like a woman getting raped repeatedly if it weren't for America.  We would get bent over 24/7 if not for our neighbors in the cell next door with the initials of U.S.A.!

You have to show the President of the country respect.  Why the fuck do
Canadians even care about the war in Iraq?  We don't have any troops over there.   They even called Bush a terrorist.  THE WORD was embarrassed at his fellow countrymen.  You may not like the man's policies but that doesn't make him a terrorist.  He's not kidnapping innocent civilians and beheading them.  That was so pathetic.

Whenever there's an injustice or an uprising, America is the bad guy if they don't go in and help.  And then they're still the bad guy when they do go in.  What the hell do you want?  First they cry like little pussies because Bush never came here during his first four year term.  When he finally does, they do nothing but complain like a bunch of bitches!  THE WORD is frustrated and fed up with Canadians.

Canadians have major racism, too.  It's against all kinds of people.  THE WORD resides in Toronto, which is probably the most ethnically diverse city in North America.  It looks just alike any other city in the US.  I can't stand how sly and sneaky Canadians can be.  Americans are more upfront about their racism than us.  Canadians just pretend that they're not racist, when in fact they are.  I'd prefer to have someone bring it to my face rather than lie behind my back.

THE ROAD BACK

THE WORD got a lot off his chest.  Now, time to talk training.  I'm 290 right now.  The goal is 330 pounds.  From there, I'll take it and see what I look like.  THE WORD feels totally relaxed and laid back.  I'm taking it as it comes.  We'll see what happens.  I'm not out to make or break any records.  I'm doing it for me this time.

And that's THE WORD!
