027434004923.jpgSoy protein has a bad reputation in the athletic community. However, modern Soy protein isolate (e.g., SuproŽ) has a very high protein content and relatively neutral taste. Furthermore, the amino acid profile of Soy protein is pretty good. Since there is little, if any, data regarding the effects of Soy protein on exercise-induced body composition changes, a recent 12-week study by Doug Kalman and co-workers compared the effects of different protein sources in combination with a resistance training program. Twenty subjects were supplemented with 50 grams/day of one of four different protein sources: Soy concentrate, Soy isolate, Soy isolate-whey blend, or whey only. Simply stated, this study demonstrated that both Soy and whey protein supplementation results in similar lean body mass accretion during resistance training. In addition, Soy protein had no adverse effects on testosterone levels
