Kai in Pole Position - Prejudging Report

Arnold Classic Australia 2016

Two weeks ago Kai Greene scored a come-from-behind victory over Cedric McMillan at the Arnold Classic in Columbus, Ohio. After the prejudging at the Arnold Classic Australia in Melbourne today (March 18) it seems that for the win Cedric will have to follow a similar reversal of fortunes path.

Kai came out to spectacular applause, a reception fully merited by his spectacular physique. He was certainly tighter at this prejudging than in Columbus two weeks ago his distended stomach gone. In the first comparison with Cedric and Justin he seemed sharper and clearly was winning it from the back detail wise. Although his left biceps looked a little funky. But by prejudging’s end he looked to be in pole position.

Of course Cedric’s size and shape, with his flowing lines, caught the eye. Some had questioned whether he could face the rigors of three contests in three different continents (Europe, Poland, Columbus, North America, and Melbourne, Australasia) in a three-week span entailing 20,000 flying miles, but he showed no regression from his Columbus form. In fact if anything he seemed a little tighter in his back.

This was billed as the Cedric McMillan vs. Kai Greene rematch. And indeed it was as the prejudging started. But no one told Justin Compton who was improved, much tighter than in Columbus two weeks ago. As the prejudging wound its way to its climax with Justin Kai and Cedric being worked in the last call out Justin visibly improved; getting harder the more he posed. He was not as sharp as his Orlando 2014 look, but in this shape he’s maybe giving a peak (with his overall balance and monstrous size, his back double bi is cartoonish) into the future …perhaps. If builds on the momentum of his prejudging display in the next 24 hours things could be interesting.

It would seem Josh Lenartowicz – maintaining his Columbus form -- and Evan Centopani – improving his -- will round out top five.

 HALF-TIME

So as we stand with the guys one sleep away from the finals, where 2/3 of the points will be awarded, much can still change. Remember Kai almost re-invented himself in the few hours between prejudging and finals in Columbus, banishing his troublesome midsection to wherever. There is much more time for improvements to be made in Melbourne. And we have the posing round (being scored) by means of which Kai pulled off victory in Columbus. And we have Justin finishing like a train. Thus we have three contrasting physiques seeming to battle out for the top three positions (in truth it’s amore of a battle for second between Cedric and Justin): The freaky Kai, the aesthetic Cedric and a sort of a hybrid of the two in the form of Justin’s physique. As Kiefer Sutherland regularly proves a lot can happen in 24 hours -- stay tuned!

Finals for men’s bodybuilding are at 7.00pm Saturday local time: 4.00am EST (New York time.) Follow musculardevelopment.com for all the action.
