Flex Lewis Has It On Lockdown! - An Arnold Classic 2014 Report

It was no surprise to anybody that Flex Lewis, reigning Olympia 212 champion, would likely be the first man to win this prestigious new title. What was surprising was who pushed hardest for a top spot, and who didn't.

Even slightly off his best condition, Flex was fairly dominant. Olympia runner-up David Henry will most likely be second today as well. But strong arguments could be made that rookie Aaron Clark, in only his second pro show ever, could have edged him out. Henry has the best upper body in this division, but his quads are still a glaring weak point. While Aaron's quads still need improvement, they are much better than his. Structurally, Clark also has wider shoulders and a great X-frame. The kid is damn good, and only getting better. I see him as someone who could easily push Flex for his O title sooner rather than later.

Based on the callouts, I see third going not to Aaron, but to IFBB veteran Hide Yamagishi, making his first appearance ever in the 212 division. Hide seemed to have given up some size and fullness to make weight. That's odd, because he was usually only a few pounds heavier anyway. Apparently those were critical pounds! Condition-wise, he was top notch, and his posing and presentation is always superior. I feel that's one area he definitely trumped Clark on, as would be expected.

Since those four men comprised the first callout, it's highly likely Jose Raymond will end up in fifth place? Jose came in at 204, which I personally felt was a wise move. His condition was on point. But the judges simply seem to prefer him bigger and fuller, closer to the class limit of 212. Since his waist is on the wider side, I guess that's the best strategy in the future.

Finals are in a few hours, and we'll see how it all shakes out then.
