Next MD Issue - 2019 Olympia Special!

The Man Who Might Be King

This year’s Mr. Olympia contest is one of the most eventful in the 54-year history of the most prestigious fitness industry showcase event in the world, Joe Weider’s Fitness and Performance Weekend. What’s most exciting about this year’s Mr. Olympia is that there will be a new champion. Who will it be? Will it be the 2019 Arnold Classic champion Brandon Curry, who beat William Bonac at this year’s Arnold Classic? Brandon continues to improve, and that’s why we put him on this month’s cover. Or will it be last year’s People’s Champion, Roelly Winklaar? Or will it be 2008 Mr. Olympia Dexter Jackson? History will be made in Las Vegas in a few weeks. The contest is wide open! I expect the competitors to be in their best shape ever fighting for the top six and title!

Curry has an outstanding aesthetic V-taper physique, massive shoulders, and a tight midsection. Few men can stand next to him when it comes to full, round, muscles, particularly in the upper body. One of Brandon’s deadliest weapons has always been his shoulders, and in “Shouldering on to Mount Olympus! Delt Training With Brandon Curry” learn how Brandon built his wide, round deltoids— a requirement for any man who wants to excel in competitive bodybuilding, but even more so for someone hoping to earn the sport’s most prestigious title.

Muscular Development provides the most comprehensive coverage of the Mr. Olympia contest, in print and online at musculardevelopment.com. I want to thank Jared Wheat and Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals for their support and sponsorship for this year’s coverage. This month, Ron Harris previews the industry’s most prestigious showcase for the best physiques in the world in MD’s “2019 Olympia Preview.”  In addition to a new Mr. Olympia this year, we will also see a new 212 Olympia champion crowned, as Flex Lewis stepped down last September after seven consecutive wins. Also, can reigning Classic Physique Olympia champion Breon Ansley win his third title?

Who would you rather get training advice from, Joe Blow at your local gym or the men who stand on the biggest and most elite bodybuilding stage in the world? With the Olympia Weekend right around the corner, “19 Secrets of the 2019 Olympians” lets you choose the latter, with tips from the men competing at this year’s bodybuilding battle in Las Vegas to help you in your quest to perfect your own physique. Check out the pointers from Roelly Winklaar, Brandon Curry, Dexter Jackson, Steve Kuclo, Juan Morel, Jonathan De La Rosa, Nathan De asha, Breon Ansley, Chris Bumstead, Ahmad Ashkanani, Arash Rahbar and George Peterson.

Few Mr. Olympia winners continue to enjoy the worldwide popularity of four-time champion “a cut above” Jay Cutler. With his All-American looks and a rugged physique packed with thick mass that was as wide as one of the Hummers he won along with his three Arnold Classic titles, Jay inspired a whole generation of young men to take up the iron. Now, nearly 10 years after he won his last Mr. Olympia, Jay remains a vital part of our industry and was recently appointed Honorary Olympia Ambassador. Jay looks back on his illustrious bodybuilding career, including his epic battles with Ronnie Coleman for the Mr. Olympia title, in “Jay Cutler: Olympia Memories” on Congratulations, Jay, on this latest well-deserved honor.

This month, Muscular Development is proud to present the 2019 Olympia Supplement Showcase, beginning, which features proven winners in sports nutrition that will help you to build muscle, burn fat and increase performance. The supplements we are highlighting, which will also be featured online at musculardevelopment.com, come from trusted names in sports nutrition.

Jared Wheat is never one to cave into a bully. The President and CEO of supplement giant Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals battled the FTC and won. Now, another lengthy and costly battle is nearing its end, and this time it was over the ingredient DMAA used in pre-workout and fat-loss products. “I just happen to be someone who doesn’t like getting run over, so I tend to stand up for myself and my company,” Jared tells MD in an exclusive interview, “The Return of DMAA: HI-Tech President Jared Wheat’s War With the FDA!”

Three-time Ms. Bikini Olympia Ashley Kaltwasser’s will be competing at this year’s Olympia Weekend. Ashley has brought much excitement and anticipation to the industry. After winning in 2013, 2014 and 2015, Ashley took a hiatus, and stepped back onstage in 2018, placing in the top five. In “Ashley Kaltwasser’s Olympia Comeback: 3X Ms. Bikini Olympia Set to Light the Stage On Fire, she discusseshow this sport has impacted her life and just what it takes to be Ms. Bikini Olympia.
