MD’s Arnold Classic Preview – March 2013

The Best Coverage of the Arnold Classic Anywhere, in Print and Online at musculardevelopment.com

2013-arnold-preview1Arnold is a name that speaks for itself— he’s the King of Bodybuilding and his name brings to mind a magnificence that is larger than life. The bodybuilding contest that bears his name, the Arnold Classic, is a true reflection of Arnold— one of the most prestigious and respected shows in the industry. Muscular Development shares Arnold’s dedication to bodybuilding, his vision and drive to be the best. Upholding Arnold’s high standards, MD is proud to give you the best coverage of the Arnold Classic anywhere, in print and online at musculardevelopment.com.

We’ve devoted the entire March 2013 issue of Muscular Development to the 25th edition of the Arnold Classic, the mega-event promoted by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jim Lorimer that is second only to the Olympia in prestige and prize money. Our coverage of the Arnold Classic gets better each year. MD is pleased to have brought you two world-exclusive interviews with Arnold during 2012, in which he discussed the globalization of the Arnold Classic. Thank you, Arnold, for taking the time to speak with MD. For March, Team MD has been deployed in full force to give our readers information about the Arnold that they can’t find anywhere else.

Contributors from Bob Cicherillo and Dan Solomon to the unpredictable (and whacked) Gregg Valentino offer commentary about the show. “How I See It” has exclusive, behind-the scenes stories about the Arnold Classic from three MD legends and Arnold Classic winners— IFBB Hall-of-Fame bodybuilders Shawn Ray, Flex Wheeler and Kevin Levrone.

If there is such as thing as royalty among bodybuilding journalists, that honor would be bestowed to MD’s Senior Editor Peter McGough, who has been covering the sport and its stars since Arnold’s Olympic wins. Peter’s “True Brit” column looks at Chris Cormier’s unlucky Arnold legacy.

Senior Writer Ron Harris has exclusive interviews with Cedric McMillan and Johnnie Jackson as they prepare to do battle at the Arnold. With over 20 years in the business, Ron is bodybuilding’s most prolific contributor and a competitive bodybuilder himself. With his passion for training and love for the sport, Ron literally takes you there each month as he walks the walk and talks the talk.

How will this year’s Arnold Classic go down? Will three-time Arnold Classic champion Dexter Jackson tie Flex Wheeler’s record of four Arnold wins? Or could Toney Freeman or Cedric McMillan bring it to Columbus, and emerge the champion? In “The 2013 Arnold Classic Preview,” Team MD’s Shawn Ray, Flex Wheeler and Kevin Levrone size up this year’s competitors.

Dexter Jackson is the odds-on favorite to win this year’s Arnold Classic. At age 43, The Blade has never looked sharper. Dexter won the Masters Mr. Olympia last December, looking the best he had in his entire career: full, nasty dry and grainy. Can he tie the all-time record of four Arnold Classic titles? In “Dexter: Going for His Most Important Win Yet!,” an exclusive interview with Flex Wheeler, Dexter tells MD how he nailed his condition with the help of IFBB Pro Guru George Farah. Muscular Development recently signed Dexter to an exclusive contract, and we want to welcome Dexter back to Team MD.

The stage is set for Cedric McMillan to do serious damage in Columbus. Fans of shape and aesthetics who long for a return to the ideals of the classic look are rooting for Cedric to score his most prestigious win to date at this year’s Arnold Classic. After skipping last year’s Mr. Olympia to make improvements to his physique, Cedric’s vast potential we saw at the 2009 Nationals is coming to fruition and he won last year’s New York Pro. In “Armed and Dangerous! Cedric McMillan Aims His Supersized Guns at an Arnold Classic Title,” find out what Big Mac does to build those large-caliber weapons that could slay the competition at the Arnold.

When it comes to traps, there have been some impressive sets going all the way back to Bertil Fox and Markus Rühl, leading into today with MD’s Branch Warren and Dexter Jackson. But there’s one man whose traps are head and shoulders above the rest. In “Johnnie Jackson Sets His Traps,” learn how Johnnie built the best traps in bodybuilding. At 41, Johnnie is still making improvements and had a great season in 2012, with the third pro win of his career (IFBB FIBO Power, Germany) and three strong runner-up finishes. To say he’s excited about the Arnold would be an understatement.

Like all the guys heading to Ohio for the Arnold, India Paulino wants to win. India, however, is much easier on the eyes— and she’s enough woman to warrant three Major Distractions in MD. Check out “India Paulino: Twice Is Not Enough” for a chat with India, who is hungry for a victory on the Bikini International stage.
