Rising Star
Regan Grimes

A Canadian Treasure
Over the last decade, we’ve seen some excellent bodybuilding talent emerge from Canada in the form of Ben Pakulski, Fouad Abiad, Antoine Vaillant, Zane Watson, Chris Bumstead, Mahmood Al Durrah, Iain Valliere, and more. One of the fastest-rising athletes these past two seasons has been 27-year-old Regan Grimes from London, Ontario. The former Motocross rider turned pro at just 22 years old when he won the Arnold Amateur show in Brazil in 2016. At 5-foot-11 and 242 pounds, his physique combined both mass and aesthetics. This allowed him to enjoy immediate success in his rookie season, where he placed fifth at both the Chicago and Tampa Pro shows and was runner-up at the Vancouver Pro.
The Classic Physique Experiment
In 2017, the inaugural season for Classic Physique in the IFBB Pro League, some fans felt that if Regan could downsize somewhat, his flowing lines and shape would do very well in that new division. In May of 2018, Grimes himself decided to see for himself in what was a true last-minute change of plans. He had arrived in New York at 245 pounds to compete in the Open class but chose to try Classic. That meant he had to drop down to 222 to make weight in about 48 hours, but he managed to do it and won the show. Later that year he went to the Olympia and took eighth place in Classic. Few were satisfied with the smaller, depleted look, including Regan.
Back to Open Bodybuilding Where He Belongs!
The 2019 season proved that Regan belongs firmly in the Open class, where he can show off the round, full muscles on his gifted structure of wide clavicles and a tiny waist. He competed twice in post-Olympia shows in Japan and Romania, taking a very respectable third place in both. This year, Regan made his way to Alicante, Spain to take fourth place at 250 pounds in excellent condition. Along with the two events from fall of 2019, this gave him enough points to compete in the 2020 Mr. Olympia. “I’m so excited to return to the Olympia stage, but this time with the Open guys,” he says. “It’s so crazy to see my name on the list of qualified competitors right before Phil Heath’s!”
Young Man on the Rise
Regan is certainly on the rise in this industry, far beyond his contest placings. Along with being an athlete for GAT® Sport for over a year now, he also owns his own private gym in Ontario as well as his own clothing brand, Grimes Apparel. His Instagram page has an astonishing 1.4 million followers, and his YouTube channel is creeping up on 300K subscribers. Coached by Dorian Hamilton of Team HD, he’s looking to make substantial improvements over his Europa Pro showing and mix it up with the very best in the world on the Mr. Olympia stage. The best part is, Regan’s physique is still nowhere near its final form. When he’s there, Regan Grimes will be a real force to be reckoned with on any stage he chooses!
