Chris Bumstead’s Classic Victory

By Steve Blechman

Classic Physique Olympia champion Chris Bumstead has spectacular structure, shape and symmetry, but like all bodybuilders he’s had to work long and hard to build and carve a championship physique. Chris has had a friendly rivalry with two-time champ Breon Ansley for years, but at the 2020 Olympia, Chris Bumstead drastically improved his back and biceps, and at just 25 years old, decisively stormed his way to a second Olympia title. Chris Bumstead is the reigning king of Classic Physique who has more than earned his spot on the cover of this month’s Muscular Development.

MD’s Giles Thomas talked to Chris Bumstead about the improvements he has made, his growing confidence in his abilities, and his long-term goals in the sport for this month’s cover story, “The Classic Ideal! Chris Bumstead Seals the Deal With 2 Olympia Titles.”

It’s not just your training split, nutrition or supplementation that determines how close you get to your own full physique potential. You also have to exercise you mind, as it’s your mind that controls your body and you are in the driver’s seat. Your attitudes and beliefs influence every decision you make, every day, and that includes in the gym. Ron Harris explains in “Mind Over Muscle!6 Ways to Use Your Brains for More Gains.”

Regardless of who will be competing in this year’s New York Pro, a good portion of people following the action on May 15 in Tampa will be very interested in who places higher – Blessing Awodibu or Nick Walker. Both of these rookies have excellent physiques as well as legions of loyal fans who feel their man will obliterate the other on show day. And both are backed by powerhouse companies – Blessing is a Redcon1 athlete and Nick is a RAW Nutrition athlete. While the two men have never stood on the same stage together, they have already exchanged verbal blows on social media. Read more in “Young Guns Showdown! Blessing Awodibu vs. Nick Walker.”

How much ya bench?” is a question that every one of us has either asked or had others ask us. What is not so ordinary is the story of Julius Maddox, who for the past several years has been the strongest raw bench presser alive. This MHP athlete turned his life around from being a drug addict and prison inmate to one of the strongest human beings on earth. Read more in “King of the Bench Press! Julius Maddox Is the All-Time Raw World Bench Press Champion.”

Many people gain a few pounds during the winter months, which were especially challenging in 2020 when we were stuck at home with nowhere to go, certainly not the gym. Even people who have dedicated their lives to training hard and eating right may have found themselves behind the eight ball. Ron Harris offers a comprehensive plan to get as lean as possible in“Rip It Up!6 Weeks to a Shredded Physique.”

Yarishna Ayala, also known as The Puerto Rican Queen, has curves in all the right places, which makes her a perfect fit for the Wellness Division. She also has 2 million Instagram followers. Yarishna won the Wellness Overall title at the 2020 NPC Universe, where she earned her pro card. She previously competed as a Bikini athlete, but as ace physique photographer J.M. Manion’s photos prove, Yarishna’s fit, toned physique makes her a winner in any division she competes in. Check out “Yarishna Ayala: The ‘Puerto Rican Queen’ of Wellness.”
