Blessing’s BIG Plans for 2023

By Steve Blechman

Few bodybuilders have generated as much excitement in recent years as Blessing Awodibu aka The Boogieman, the man on this month’s cover. Originally from Nigeria, Blessing grew up mainly in Ireland before finally making his way to the USA a couple of years ago. His rivalry with Nick Walker was probably the most interesting narrative in pro bodybuilding in the spring of 2021, leading up to Blessing’s pro debut. Blessing would go on to win back-to-back shows the following year at the Indy Pro and New York Pro. After his Mr. Olympia debut in December 2022 didn’t go as planned, Blessing went back to the drawing board to revamp his training and nutrition. “This year is going to be the beginning of The Boogieman’s reign,” he tells MD.

MD’s Ron Harris caught up with the The Boogieman, who is now a MuscleTech athlete, and found out what he’s been up to and how he plans on bringing a version of his physique none of us have ever seen before for the 2023 season. “It’s been a great off-season, and I attribute it all to food and MuscleTech products!” Blessing tells MD. “People have seen me at my worst. They don’t know what my best looks like,” he declares in “Big Boogie Energy! Blessing ‘The Boogieman’ Awodibu Has BIG Plans for 2023.”

Some pro bodybuilders climb to the highest levels of the sport straight out of the gate in their rookie year, while others, like 212 Olympia champion Shaun Clarida, take a little more time: it took him five tries to win the New York Pro, and six tries to win the Olympia after failing to place in the top 10 in his first two attempts. Connecticut’s Kerrith Bajjo is also a man who is warming up to greatness. This Redcon1 athlete turned pro in 2017 as a Master, which rarely leads to success as a professional. It wasn’t until his fourth pro season that he finally scored his first win in Tampa, and since then he’s been on a steady climb. Bajjo has not only size and shape in his favor, but gnarly, nasty, grainy condition with striations and veins covering every inch of his flesh. He’s been in the top 10 at both 212 Olympia events he’s contested and tells MD this month: “I believe I can win the 212 Olympia. There’s no doubt in my mind that if I put it all together, I can own that title.” Learn more in “Kerrith Bajjo: Is ‘The Apex Predator’ the Next 212 Superstar?”

Big arms shout power and confidence, which is why they are the one body part no one in history has ever skipped a training day for. Now is the perfect time to focus on building bigger arms: as the temperatures climb and the days are longer and brighter, we shed those confining layers of clothing and finally have the chance to show what we work so hard for in the gym. Ron Harris gives MD readers a training split for bigger guns, comprehensive arm workouts, and tips for rapid arm growth. You’re going to be obliterating your arms without mercy twice every eight days, after a full day of rest when you should strive to get plenty of actual rest and eat up. Learn more in “Big Guns in the Sun!Show Off Huge Arms This Summer.”

Building muscle is never a rapid process, nor is shedding body fat. Nutrition is critical, as are adequate rest and recovery as well as proper mind-muscle connection. “You might see me curling 25-pound dumbbells, but my arms are almost 22 inches because I squeeze the hell out of my biceps on every rep,” as IFBB Pro and GAT Sport athlete Logan Franklin says. Doing the right things every day, day after day, is how to elicit long-term results. Certainly, having gifted genetics helps, but most people would have a better physique if they simply changed their daily habits and strategies. Ron Harris offers his best advice in “Top 10 Tips to Get Jacked and Ripped to Shreds!”
