April 2013: The X-TREME Issue!!!!

MD Cover-april2013

This month we are going to X-treme lengths to keep things hardcore and extra big. The cover photo and free poster of Johnnie Jackson says it all. We’re focusing on the competitors entering this year’s Arnold Classic, who will be in the spotlight when this issue hits the newsstands. The Arnold Classic is the biggest bodybuilding show of the year – and an X-tra large bodybuilding event that has expanded globally and back in the USA, is part of the Arn

old Sports Festival that draws athletes from around the world. The Arnold Classic Weekend has the biggest attendance of any bodybuilding show in the industry, and more people gather in Columbus each year than at any other bodybuilding contest in the world. So we’re giving X-TREME coverage to a show that is larger than life, like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The DEX Factor

Bodybuilder Dexter jackson

Team MD’s Dexter Jackson, who won the Arnold Classic in 2005, 2006, and 2008, will try to tie Flex Wheeler’s record of four Arnold wins this year. Dexter’s career has been one of unique excellence and unparalleled longevity – with the ability to improve at 43 years old and after 22 years of working out. In “DeX Factor”, Peter McGough tells us that maybe it is what Dexter Jackson doesn’t do that has given him his success. Also, Dexter’s column, “The Blade,” returns to MD this month.

Triple X!!!

Fans of the classic physique and the “X-frame” are in for a real treat at this year’s Arnold Classic. Three of the greatest “X-Men” in the sport will be sharing the stage for the first time – all of them over six foot and weighing between 265-275 pounds, with barn door shoulders, flaring massive quads, and a tiny waist that you would expect to see on a man 100 pounds lighter. They are Toney Freeman, Cedric McMillan, and Ed Nunn. In “Triple X! Toney Freeman, Cedric McMillan and Ed Nunn – The 3 Greatest X-Men in the sport”! Ron Harris spoke with all three athletes as they prepared to meet onstage and give new meaning to the term “Triple X”!

XL-Man Ben Pakulski

When it comes to X-treme size and how to get there, look no further than “XL-Man! Ben Pakulski Continues to Pack on Mass and Build on his Success.” Ben is one of the greatest bodybuilders to ever come out of Canada, and he has literally been packing on the mass and is becoming one of the biggest stars in the sport with a very substantial fan base to match his growing competitive resume.

X-TREME Workout at Metroflex Gym

XTREME-WORKOUT-NEW-PMbranchjohnnie

Johnnie Jackson has never been on the cover of MD before, but it’s well deserved for several reasons. Johnnie has really worked hard to improve his physique for this year’s Arnold – especially his legs, which were a weak body part. We expect to see the best Johnnie Jackson ever at this year’s Arnold. Johnnie is the strongest bodybuilder competing today, pound for pound, so he’s no slouch when it comes to pounding X-TREME weight. Bring this issue of MD to the Arnold and have Johnnie sign the poster inside. Just go to the X-tra large and spectacular GASP booths (numbers 401-514) at the Arnold Expo.

And when you talk about X-TREME, kick-ass training, nobody is more intense than MD and GASP-sponsored athletes Johnnie Jackson and Branch Warren – and there is no place on earth more hardcore than Metroflex Gym, where they both train. Any time Branch and Johnnie meet up to train, it’s a brutal war of man versus iron in a gym that’s not pretty but delivers results. Get their balls to the walls back workout in “X-TREME Workout at Metroflex Gym: Johnnie Jackson and Branch Warren’s Backyard”.

Young Guns - Generation NeXt!!

Gen-nextX

New faces and new blood is what keeps bodybuilding interesting. MD is proud to have four “Young Guns,” a group of 20-something pros coming up the ranks, getting better every year and breathing new life into bodybuilding. In “Generation NeXt! What Do the Young Guns Have in Store for us This Year?” Ron Harris checks in with Steve Kuclo, Jonathan De La Rosa, Antoine Vaillant, and Dallas McCarver to see what Generation Next has been working on lately in and out of the gym, and what they have in store for us this year.

The Arnold Classic celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, and MD’s own Rich Gaspari – who won the inaugural Arnold Classic in 1989 – will receive the 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award. Congratulations, Rich. All past winners of Arnold Classic are going to be honored, including Team MD’s four-time Mr.Olympia Jay Cutler, Flex Wheeler, Kevin Levrone, Branch Warren, Shawn Ray, and Victor Martinez.

Several Columns and research reports written by our stellar team of MD contributors shed light on the keys to X-TREME training and conditioning. In “Blood and Guts”, six-time Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates explains how he got the “grainy” look, an extreme level of conditioning that “The Shadow” was known for. On the subject of fat loss, cardio is a vital part of most bodybuilders’ contest prep-but losing hard-earned muscle is always a concern when you up the cardio. In this month’s Fat Attack, “Get Ripped with HIIT”, Daniel Gwarthney, M.D. explains how it’s possible to maintain lean muscle mass during periods of fat loss.

Vida Guerra - X-tra Hot!!!

Vidafeature

Ever since Vida Guerra appeared in a FHM magazine photo shoot, she has created a worldwide tsunami of lust among men. Last year she was among the Internet’s top 10 most searched for female celebrities. Certainly, one Major Distraction is not enough to do justice to Vida. Adina Zanolli spoke to Vida for her return to MD this month in “Vida Guerra: Here She Comes Again”….and check out Per Bernal’s X-tra Hot photos!

The rest of the book is packed to the binder as usual – with all the latest cutting-edge research and information on bodybuilding by the industry experts and insiders who make it all happen. See you next month!
