"Thank you for bringing that lube for my pussy. I never would've been able to handle your four-inch dick inside my pussy without that gigantic bottle of lube." That line from the film "Superbad" sums up our ambivalence about lubes during sex. People were more likely to use lubes when having sex in a long-term relationship.

An Indiana University study of nearly 2,500 women and 2,000 men showed that most found that lubes improved sexual satisfaction during solo or dual activities. Health experts recommend lubes for preventing vaginal tearing and for increasing the reliability of condoms— both of which prevent STDs and HIV infections. Few people reported side effects from using lubes. Women were more likely than men to apply lubes to their partner or themselves. Most men and women said that lubes made sex more comfortable and pleasurable. (University of Indiana press release, November 9, 2009)
