Low Fertility From Prolonged Steroid Use

By George Touliatos, MD

Q: I have been diagnosed with low fertility from prolonged steroid use. What can I do in order to restore it and conceive?

A: A seminal diagram usually <20M/ml sperm cells is considered to be oligospermic. Of course motility of spermatocytes is also important. This is improved by the use of tocopherol (vitamin E) in high dose taken with meal (fat soluble).

However, in order to kick FSH and spermatogenesis, we use HMG (human menopausal gonadotropin) along with hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) for a couple of weeks. So every three days, 1000iu hCG plus 75iu HMG. Mesterolone is also known to improve this process at low dose, while zinc at high dose will improve prostatic fluid synthesis. Make sure you avoid ejaculation for at least 72 hours next time you have the seminal diagram, and hydrate well. Avoid wearing tight jeans and having steam baths or using the sauna. Drinking coffee from plastic bottles is strictly prohibited, as it releases toxic compounds that harm spermatozoa.
